Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of an international alliance with the goal of establishing a Palestinian state and advancing the two-state solution. Speaking at the UN ministerial meeting focused on the Palestinian issue, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan called on global partners to join the initiative, representing a united effort from Arab, Islamic, and European nations. His remarks, delivered on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, underscored the urgency of international collaboration, although further details about the alliance were not provided.

Faisal condemned the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the severe violations by Israeli forces in the West Bank, describing these actions as part of a broader policy of occupation and violent extremism. He emphasised that the right to self-defense cannot excuse the widespread killing of civilians, forced displacement, and other documented atrocities, including torture and sexual violence. Faisal also warned of the escalating violence in the region, particularly Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, raising concerns about the potential for a wider regional conflict that could endanger global stability.

In his call for peace, Faisal urged an immediate halt to the war and all violations of international law, questioning the credibility of the global order in the face of unchecked violence. He reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is a fundamental right, essential for achieving lasting peace. Praising countries that have recently recognised Palestine, he encouraged others to follow suit and join the growing international consensus in support of Palestinian statehood.
