Iran launches barrage of missiles at Israel in response to killings of Haniyeh, Nasrallah
Iran has launched a significant missile strike against Israel following the assassinations of key figures, including Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. This large-scale attack, involved over 400 ballistic missiles.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that the assault was in direct retaliation for the killings of Haniyeh, Nasrallah, and IRGC Commander Abbas Nilforoshan, who were targeted in separate Israeli strikes in Tehran and Beirut. In their initial statement, the IRGC warned of “further devastating strikes” should Israel retaliate, with support for the operation coming from Iran’s military and Defense Ministry.
Iran’s UN mission later issued a statement, justifying the missile attack as a “legitimate and lawful response” to the assassinations, underlining its rationality in the face of these provocations.
The region has been on edge since the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran on August 1, for which Iran holds Israel responsible. Nasrallah’s recent death in a Beirut airstrike further escalated tensions, drawing condemnation from Iranian leadership.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the missiles have caused any significant damage or casualties in Israel.
