Pakistan Arrests Former PM Imran Khan

News

On Tuesday, Pakistan apprehended Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister, on numerous corruption allegations, a development that is expected to exacerbate the political upheaval in the country.

Fawad Chaudhry, Khan’s confidante and former information minister, stated, “Imran Khan has been arrested, and our workers are being brutalized.”

Khan’s supporters engaged in violent clashes with riot police during his detention from the Islamabad High Court (IHC), where he was scheduled to appear for a bail plea.

According to a security official who spoke with dpa, Khan was detained on one of several corruption allegations he is facing.

Khan, who came to power following a contested election in 2018, was removed from office by parliament in April last year through a no-confidence motion and has since faced a barrage of legal challenges.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for confirmation of the news.
